An organic–inorganic hybrid liposome, cerasome, was utilized as a new gene carrier for solid-phase transfection. The cerasome-modified glass substrate exhibited an increased transfection performance for HEK293T cells, compared to a solution-based bulk method, because of the efficient contact between the cells and the cerasome–plasmid DNA complex on the substrate surface.
